Holly Hunt Studio has collaborated with American contemporary artist Paula Crown on two limited edition pieces to debut in London during Frieze 2015 alongside a selection of works from the artist.
Renowned creative entrepreneurs Holly Hunt and Paula Crown have come together to celebrate the intersection between contemporary art and design, during this year’s Frieze London Art Fair and to coincide with Pavilion Art and Design Fair (PAD). The Fair takes place in Berkeley Square, around the corner from the HOLLY HUNT showroom at 20 Grafton Street. Aptly named The Paula Crown Affair, the show will be held 13-18 October.
Paula Crown’s work explores place and landscape. The artist is interested in how landscape can exist as an object in many forms and interprets this through ‘dimensionalized drawings.’ For the collaboration, Paula Crown has applied her image-making perspective to two new pieces from HOLLY HUNT Studio, which will be available for order exclusively through the London Showroom.
The new furniture pieces include a pedestal table in Nero Absoluto marble, with brass ‘Fractal’ inlay over a faceted pedestal base with brass floor plate (above) as well as a side table, in Vetro Bianco marble, also with brass inlay of the Artist’s design, over a brass road base (below). For Frieze London 2015, the two furniture pieces will be accompanied by a collection of art works by Paula Crown, selected by Holly Hunt for installation in the London Showroom. These pieces are being exhibited in London for the first time in collaboration with New York-based Marlborough Gallery.
“Paula’s graphic sensibility is exceptional and the depth of her fractal drawings made for an interesting application to marble. It has been such a joy to collaborate with her and wonderful to share the result in London for Frieze” said Holly Hunt, of the collaboration.
Holly Hunt and Paula Crown’s relationship began in Chicago, where the collaborators are both based. Holly sits on the Board of Governors of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where Paula completed a MFA in painting and drawing, in 2012. Prior collaborators, Holly and Paula worked closely on the redesign of the guest rooms and suites at the Little Nell Hotel, in Aspen, Colorado.
“Holly Hunt is a ‘multi- hyphenate’; an entrepreneur, designer and artist. Her approach to a project is consonant with my approach to creating an art work. She has an intuitive sense of scale, material and color. I am thrilled that this contemporary discussion continues with The Paula Crown Affair,” said Paula Crown.
